TESA or Testicular Sperm Aspiration is a medical procedure of sperm extraction for the treatment of male infertility problems. In this procedure, a needle is penetrated in the testicle/s and fluid and tissue with workable sperm is extracted for Assisted Reproductive Techniques such as ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection).
  1. TESA is performed when the male is diagnosed with problems of semen as part of sperm culture reports or semen analysis tests. Issues could be any of the following -

    1. Azoospermia (complete absence of sperm during ejaculation)
    2. Non-Obstructive Azoospermia (Abnormal sperm production)
    3. Oligospermia (low concentration of sperms)
    4. Cryptozoospermia (sperms with high casualty rate)
    5. Necrozoospermia (condition with dead and immobile sperms)
  2. When the person has a long history of various genital surgeries and issues such as

    1. Vasectomy (surgery for permanent contraception of men)
    2. Frenulectomy (Removal of frenulum of the penis to correct condition of frenulum breve/breaching)
    3. Penectomy (Surgical removal of penis)
    4. Urethrectomy (Surgery to remove male urethra- a tube connecting urinary bladder and male genitalia)
    5. Men with Retrograde Ejaculation problems (ejaculation happening inside the urinary bladder instead of coming out of urethra.

Oocyte/Egg donation is a two-phase medical procedure.

  1. Ovarian Hyper stimulation- Here the donor is given some follicle stimulating hormonal drugs (Gonadotropin i.e.), which induces the ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs.
  2. Egg Retrieval- Once the egg production happens, eggs are retrieved from the donor with the help of transvaginal ultrasound aspiration. This is a straight forward and not at all a surgical procedure. Under this procedure, the surgeon or the RE(Reproductive Endocrinologist), uses a tube with suctioning needle into each ovary to retrieve mature eggs from the follicular fluid.
  1. TESA is easy and is a micro-surgical procedure.
  2. It is cost effective as it cut downs the need for expensive injections of superovulation for the mother.
  3. Less painful and less traumatic as no blood vessel is touched during TESA.
  4. It saves you time as the entire procedure of TESA lasts for hardly 45 minutes.
  5. If you are not looking for a donor sperm, then TESA is the best option to go ahead with..
  1. Fever as high as 104 degrees.
  2. Feeling of nausea and vomiting.
  3. Risk of excessive bleeding.
  4. Risk of damaging testicular tissue if not operated properly.
