Infertility Treatment at Hysteroscopy Centers in Nagpur

What is Hysteroscopy?

Hysteroscopy is a procedure performed by a surgeon to view the inside of the uterus. Hysteroscopy is used to diagnose or eliminate problems in the uterus, without making an incision in the abdomen. The uterus is a hollow organ in lower abdomen where a baby grows during pregnancy. Each month during a woman’s childbearing years, the inner layer of her uterus, also called as the endometrium, fills up with extra blood and tissue to prepare the uterus for pregnancy. When pregnancy doesn’t happen, the extra tissue sheds through the vagina during menstruation. A diagnostic hysteroscopy procedure may be performed to evaluate the causes of abnormal uterine bleeding, investigate causes of infertility, and undefined repetitive miscarriages to detect the abnormal benign growths in the uterus such as fibroids, polyps, and scarring. An operative hysteroscopy may be done to remove benign growths from the uterus, to obtain a tissue sample or biopsy from the lining of the uterus, to locate an intrauterine device (IUD) or to place small devices in the fallopian tubes as a form of permanent birth control. Before the procedure, the patient is given general, regional or local anesthesia. The doctor or surgeon at the hysteroscopy centre in Nagpur begins the procedure by inserting a speculum to spread the open walls of the vagina. The surgeon then pulls the cervix towards the entry of the vagina. Doctors then use instruments, called dilators to open up the cervix. The doctor guides a hysteroscope, a thin device equipped with a camera and light, through the uterus. The camera transmits images of the uterus to a screen. The doctor then injects gas or fluid to expand the uterus, making it easier to locate the abnormal tissue into the uterus. In a diagnostic hysteroscopy, the doctor uses a hysteroscope to examine insides of the uterus. In an operative hysteroscopy, the doctor inserts small tools through the hysteroscope to obtain a biopsy, removal growth such as a polyp or to treat other problems. Post-procedure, the doctor may recommend medications for pain relief. The patient can resume her normal routine activities within one to two days after the procedure. The patient may have mild cramping and some bloody discharge for several days and then settles down. Some of the common procedures performed are endometrial ablation, hysteroscopic polypectomy, and myomectomy.

The need of Hysteroscopy Procedure

There are various reproductive disorders for which hysteroscopy procedure is performed. The procedure is performed to remove the complete and incomplete septum which is a congenital defect and interrupts or prevents pregnancy. Conditions under which hysteroscopy procedure is performed are:

A gynecologist discusses a number of different treatment options with patients before getting started with the procedure to ascertain and treat the cause of the symptoms immediately, using a hysteroscope. Patient’s consent is mandatory before the treatment takes place. It depends on the patient to decide on a suitable treatment.

Types of Hysteroscopy

There are two types of hysteroscopy namely, Diagnostic hysteroscopy and Operative hysteroscopy. Both the procedures are performed to find out the cause of abnormal functioning of the uterus. Both the procedures are interlinked as in diagnostic hysteroscopy, the cause of abnormal functioning is revealed and in the operative hysteroscopy procedure, the best treatment to eliminate the problem is decided. The two types of hysteroscopy are explained below:

Hysteroscopy Procedure

Hysteroscopy procedure is an out-patient procedure and can be performed on a day-care basis. The procedure takes place either at hysteroscopy centre in Nagpur, in a hospital OT or at a doctor’s clinic. In the case of general anesthesia, it is advised that the patient should be fasting for a few hours before the commencement of the hysteroscopy procedure. Your fertility expert at will tell you whether this is applicable to you or not because in local anesthetics, there’s no need to be fasting prior to the procedure. The procedure of hysteroscopy is explained below:

The time to perform hysteroscopy procedure is around 5-10 minutes, but depending on the severity of the patient’s condition, the time for the surgery can be extended to more than an hour. The time period for the hysteroscopy procedure also depends on the type of hysteroscopy, diagnostic or operative. Generally, diagnostic hysteroscopy procedure takes less time than operative hysteroscopy. The patient is asked to bring a relative or a friend for support and assistance and to drive the patient home after the procedure. The relatives or friends are not allowed to accompany the patient during the hysteroscopy procedure, but he/she can meet the patient post-procedure. A number of different anesthetic methods like general, regional or local are given to the patient due to which the patient might experience some after effects like fatigue or unconsciousness.

Is Hysteroscopy Painful?

Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure, therefore, the procedure is less painful. However, it also depends on the severity of the condition. According to the reviews by patients at hysteroscopy centres in Nagpur, some women felt mild pain and discomfort post procedure while others found it too uncomfortable. Mild cramping is also felt during the hysteroscopy procedure depending upon the type of anesthesia given to the patient.

Hysteroscopy Risks and Complications

Although the chances of risks and complications associated with hysteroscopy procedure are rare, some women can witness mild vaginal bleeding and cramping post procedure. The minimal complications that take place include side effects of anesthesia or liquid used for cleaning the uterus, fever and chills, damage to the digestive or urinary tract, heavy bleeding and scarring of the uterus. The most common complication reported in diagnostic hysteroscopy is an accidental perforation. Other rare complications may include fluid overload or pain due to gas embolism used during the procedure.

Affordability of Hysteroscopy Cost in Nagpur

The factors that affect the hysteroscopy cost in Nagpur are the success rate of hysteroscopy centre in Nagpur clinic, the success rate of doctors, experience and qualifications of the gynecologist and type of procedure whether it is diagnostic hysteroscopy or operative hysteroscopy. The hysteroscopy cost in Nagpur also depends on the type of treatments needed such as fibroid removal, biopsy, polyp removal, and removal of the endometrial lining. The higher the success rates, higher is the outcome of the procedure and the hysteroscopy cost in Nagpur is also increased accordingly. Success rate relies on various factors including qualifications and expertise of the doctor and infrastructure of hysteroscope centres in Nagpur.

Things to do before Hysteroscopy

In most of the cases, the doctors at the hysteroscopy centres in Nagpur schedule the hysteroscopy procedure after the menstrual cycle. A week after the menstruation cycle, the doctors can easily access and examine the uterus. Hysteroscopy is also performed to determine the cause of unexplained repeated miscarriages or postmenopausal bleeding. No major preparations are made in case of having hysteroscopy with local anesthesia, whereas, in general anesthesia, the patient is asked not to eat or drink anything for at least seven to eight hours prior to the procedure. Hysteroscopy Recovery

In the cases where regional or general anesthetics are given to the patient, the patient is kept under observation and is asked to rest for several hours before going home following the after effects of anesthesia. Mild cramping and vaginal bleeding can be felt by the patient for one or two days. Some patients may also feel restlessness and fatigue. You can contact in case of having high temperature and if the heavy bleeding or vaginal discharge continues. Some patients have also reported shoulder pain due to the gas used at the time of hysteroscopy procedure. Generally, the patient can have something light to eat or drink post procedure. Patients who are given local anesthetics at hysteroscopy centres in Nagpur are advised to leave in an hour or two after a thorough observation and checkup. When regional anesthetics are given, the patient is asked to rest until the effects of anesthesia get reduced following the effects of anesthesia. The patient is kept under observation for a time period of an hour or more based on the amount of anesthesia used in the procedure. Even in the case of general anesthesia, hysteroscopy is still an outpatient procedure. The patient can return home the same day of the hysteroscopy procedure. An overnight stay is required if the patient has a history of any reaction to anesthesia. For fast and speedy recovery, the patients are prescribed certain medications by the doctors at hysteroscopy centres in Nagpur. If a surgical procedure is performed, then the patient is advised to resume her normal schedule after two days after the procedure. The patients are also advised to avoid sexual activities for a week in order to reduce the chances of catching an infection. In the case of general anesthesia, the patient is asked to rest until the effect of anesthesia is completely reduced. Normally, the bleeding gets settled in less than a week’s time.
