Uses

Flavoxate is used to treat bladder symptoms such as frequent or urgent urination, increased night-time urination, bladder pain, and incontinence (urine leakage). These bladder symptoms are often caused by overactive bladder, prostate enlargement, bladder infections or irritation of the urethra It can also be used to relievepainful urination, excessive urination at night and the inability to control urine flow that occurs after surgery, cystoscopy or catheterisation


Mechanism of Action

Flavoxate is an anti-spasmodic, medicines which relieve and prevent muscle spasms. It works by reducing the muscle contractions of your bladder and increasing the volume of urine that your bladder can hold. This will help reduce your symptoms of passing urine unexpectedly and frequently


Dosage
Adult -Oral- Bladder spasms due to catheterization; Dysuria; Urinary incontinence, urgency and frequency- 200 mg 3 times per day

Warnings/Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with history of enlarged prostate gland, urinary problems, increased eye pressure, heart, liver or kidney diseases, overactive thyroid, ulcer, elderly, children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding It may cause dizziness, drowsiness or blurred vision, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication Avoid alcohol consumption
