Mechanism of ActionEnoxaparin is an anti-coagulant belongs to a class of medication called low molecular weight heparin. It works by preventing the formation of new clots in the body and also prevents the existing clots from getting bigger
DosageAdult- Abdominal Surgery- the recommended dose is 40 mg once a day Hip or Knee Replacement Surgery- the recommended dose is 30 mg every 12 hours
Side EffectsFainting Pink patches on the skin Tenderness or swelling in the stomach Dark red spots under the skin Swallowing or breathing problems Changes blood parameters Hair loss Yellowing of eyes or skin Allergic reaction like swelling on face Dizziness Brittle bones Pain or swelling at the site of injection Bleeding from the wound Severe headache
Warnings/PrecautionsCaution needed for patients with history of kidney or liver impairment, history of GI ulceration, spinal or epidural anesthesia; lactation and pregnancy; elderly Periodic blood counts, platelet count and stool occult blood test recommended Do not use it in newborns or infants, because it contains benzyl alcohol Monitor liver function carefully
