Used to prevent and treat asthma, seasonal and year round allergies (hay fever), and prevent exercise-induced asthma
Mechanism of Action
It blocks the action of certain natural substances (leukotrienes) that are involved in causing asthma and allergies. It makes breathing easier by reducing swelling in the airways
Dosage
Adult- The recommended dose is 10 mg/day
Side Effects
Most Common- Diarrhea, dizziness, cough, headache, vomiting, stomach pain and sore throat Miscellaneous- Hoarseness, itching, rash, hives, fever, flu-like symptoms,Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN)
Warnings/Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with history of liver disease, suicidal thoughts, mental problem, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding It may cause drowsiness or dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication
