Mechanism of ActionNicorandil works by relaxing (widening) the blood vessels of the heart. This increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart, and reduces the pain. It can also reduce the risk of further heart conditions
DosageAdult: Oral: Initial: 10 mg twice daily. Usual dose: 10-20 mg twice daily. Max: 30 mg twice daily
Side EffectsMost Common- Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, flushing, weakness and rectal bleeding Heart- Fast heart rate and low blood pressure Miscellaneous- Rash, abnormal liver function, mouth ulcer and muscle pain
Warnings/PrecautionsCaution should be exercised in patients with history of low volume of blood (hypovolaemia), low blood pressure, heart attack or other heart disease, lung swelling, mouth ulcer, any allergy, elderly and during pregnancy It may cause dizziness or lightheadedness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication
