Used in short-term treatment of pain after dental surgery, pain associated with acute sciatica and pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
Mechanism of Action
It works by inhibiting the prostaglandin synthesis (inhibition of the cyclooxygenase enzyme)
Dosage
Adult- Pain: 8-16 mg/day. Max: 24 mg/day Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis: 12 mg/day in 2 -3 divided doses, up to 16 mg/day IV/IM- Pain: 8 mg 1-2 times/day. Max: 24 mg/day
Side Effects
Abdominal pain Headache, drowsiness, sleeplessness, and dizziness Visual disturbance High blood pressure, palpitations and fluid retention Kidney damage Skin death and rash
Warnings/Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with history of infections, asthma, any allergy, bleeding disorder, high blood pressure, impaired kidney, liver, heart function, during pregnancy and breastfeeding It may cause drowsiness or dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication
