    Fertility Treatments (5 Videos )

    Diagnostic Pelvic Laparoscopy Procedure

Diagnostic Pelvic Laparoscopy is one of the most common laparoscopic procedures which are advised for couples who are trying for pregnancy but are unable to achieve success. Some of the other reasons when the doctor recommends a couple to go for diagnostic pelvic laparoscopy includes pelvic pain and fluid accumulation. The laparoscopy procedure is a short one and does not require lot of time for the successful completion of the procedure. Before starting with the procedure, the patient is given medications along with general anesthesia. The carbon dioxide gas is given to the patient with the help of tube inserted from below the naval area of the abdomen. The surgeon can now view internal organs in the pelvic region clearly. The laparoscope is attached to the tube inserted earlier. This device helps in clear view of the organs and helps in identifying the problems present in the targeted region in the patient’s body. The laparoscopy surgeon might also utilize other instruments with the laparoscope to view the organs properly and find out any damaged structures or tissues. The recovery time of the diagnostic pelvic laparoscopy is faster than expected by most of the patients.

Robotic Fibroid Removal Surgery (Fibroid Myomectomy Procedure)

Fibroids affect the health of a woman in different ways. One of the most crucial ways in which fibroids cause problems in a woman is in case of positive occurrence of pregnancy. Because of this, the doctor advises the patient to opt for the Robotic Fibroid Removal Surgery which is popularly known as Robotic Myomectomy procedure. The fibroids which are formed are non-cancerous in nature and do not spread to the other parts of the body. These are located mostly in the inner or outer lining of the uterus in the woman undergoing the procedure. Therefore, it leads to faster treatment of the same with appreciating recovery in the condition of the patient. The patient is first given with medications and general anesthesia for the procedure. The surgeon utilizes 3D high end technology and medical equipments with tools for clear vision of the fibroids. This helps the surgeon in removing the fibroids successfully without injuring the uterus in the woman. The area from where the fibroid was removed is sutured and the incision areas on the abdomen are also stitched. The patient is kept under observation and discharged after next few days.

Preimplantation Genetic Screening - Advantages, Disadvantages

Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) is an advanced medical procedure which offers required assistance to the couples who want their babies to be born free from any hereditary disorders. The PGS technique prevents passage of the aneuploidy chromosome which can cause possible medical conditions in the baby. Some of the few cells from the blastocyst stage of the embryo are separated and sent for the PGS procedure. Till then, the embryo is frozen and couple waits for the results. The advantages of PGS procedure are increased implantation cases, increased pregnancy cases as well as boost in the delivery rates. The disadvantages of PGS includes more time usage for the completion of the PGS technique with the IVF procedure. Also, most of the couples hesitate to utilize Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) with the fear of increased cost of the total procedure. It is important to know that the total cost of the procedure significantly increases with the introduction of the PGS technique in the IVF procedure. You need to make sure that you do not stress when opting for this procedure. Couples need to understand that PGS technique benefits older women more than the younger ones. So, it is best if the female partner in a couple is over than age of 35 years of age. A couple must opt for PGS procedure to increase chances of a positive pregnancy.

    What are Artificial Reproduction Techniques?

ART or Assisted Reproductive Technology is a set of techniques used to help an infertile couple conceive. ART by definitions refers to a treatment that involves manipulation of eggs and sperms outside the female body. Intrauterine insemination (IUI) which is the most basic type of ART requires the male partner to provide semen sample for processing prior to injections to uterus. Egg Donation or Egg freezing is another form of ART in which eggs or sperms are cryopreserved for future use. This is useful for women who want to preserve their eggs in the absence of a partner or who wish to retain fertility in the later stages in life. For women who receive chemotherapy either for cancer or rheumatoid diseases (conditions that threaten egg supply) freezing their eggs is a good way to sustain fertility. In Vitro Fertilization is a technology that is far more complex than IUI or artificial insemination because in this eggs and sperms are fertilized outside of the body and the embryo is placed back into uterus. It is during IVF that the frozen gametes (eggs and sperms) are utilized to form an embryo.

What is the difference between different ARTs?

ART or Artificial Reproduction Technology is an alternative to natural conceiving and it can be carried out through various techniques like Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). In IUI, which is the most basic of all, a woman’s ovaries are stimulated using hormonal injections. After ovulation the sperms are then placed into uterus. This process is less invasive as compared to the other complex techniques. In vitro Fertilization is a technology is used in case of either male or female infertility or in cases of unexplained infertility. It involves controlled ovarian stimulation after which eggs are retrieved from ovaries and placed with sperms in a lab. Finally the resulting embryo is placed into the woman’s uterus. ICSI is a common technique that is used in case of male infertility. It is done with conventional IVF but the sperm is selectively picked up with the help of a high power microscope to ensure that only a healthy sperm is picked to be microinjected into an egg. Here the embryo transfer (ET) is same as done in a conventional IVF and it enhances the success rate of an IVF cycle.
