    • You should visit a Gynecologist anytime you have problems with your reproductive system or breasts. That includes, issues relating to pregnancy, fertility, menstruation, and menopause or problems with tissues that support the pelvic organs, including ligaments and muscles. A Gynecologist is also the first doctor you should visit if you have any questions about family planning, including contraception, sterilization, and pregnancy termination.

    • Polycystic ovarian syndrome or PCOS is one of the most common causes of female infertility that affects hormone levels. This hormone imbalance causes irregular menstrual periods and makes it harder for them to get pregnant. You and your doctor should consult about your concerns and goals are so that together, you can come up with a treatment plan. If you want to get pregnant and are having trouble in conceiving, then your treatment would focus on helping you conceive. Typically, the treatment for PCOS start by eating a healthy diet, low-carbohydrate diets and by losing weight. Losing weight may ease some symptoms and help make your periods more regular. The doctor may also advise you to exercise regularly to cut down blood sugar levels. If this does not bring any change in your condition, he may prescribe your hormone medications and injections such as Clomid, Letrozole and Gonadotropins. If Gonadotropins cannot help in regaining ovulation, the next step is IVF. In this process, the eggs are surgically retrieved and fertilized in a lab using partners sperms. The cultured embryos are later transferred in the uterus to achieve pregnancy. Ovarian drilling is also an option to improve fertility if other treatments do not work. It is a procedure done with tiny holes in the ovary with a laser or thin heated needle to restore normal ovulation.

    • PCOS causes women to have higher than normal amounts of male hormones. This hormone imbalance causes women to have irregular and painful menstrual periods, making it harder for them to get pregnant. The best treatment for PCOD is regular exercise and eating food rich in nutrients. Medications and hormone therapy is another option for treatment. If nothing works, IVF is the best way to get pregnant.

What is the success rate of IVF?
    • Your success rates of IVF treatment depends on your reason for infertility, the hospital you are visiting for treatment, the experience of the infertility specialist and your age. You should also know that the older you are, lower the chances you have of conceiving. Women under 35 years of age have 41 to 43 percent chance of conceiving which decrease to 13 to 18 percent if you are above 40. In cases where the sperm count is extremely low or if the chances of conceiving is very low, doctors may suggest ICSI with IVF to have higher chances of conceiving.
