Women with Endometriosis are at risk for developing types of ovarian cancer. One common type is known as EOC (Epithelial Ovarian Cancer) where malignant cancer cells are formed as a tissue covering the ovary. This risk is higher in women with endometriosis and infertility. However, use of birth control pills significantly reduce the risk of EOC.
An endometriosis can turn into cancer, if there's no genetic trait related with endometriosis. Some different types of ovarian cancer which are more common in women with endometriosis are clear cell ovarian cancer and endometrioid ovarian cancer. But even with these types of cancer the risk is still lower than 1%.
Usually, In Vitro Fertilization treatment (IVF) is considered the best option for women who have been diagnosed with endometriosis and infertility disorders. The results of endometriosis procedure are same for patients who are undergoing IVF procedure as well as for patients who do not have endometriosis issues. Special monitoring and medications are needed for the treatment of endometriosis.
