Get to know why No Meat and No Sex have been suggested to the pregnant women in India by Ayush Ministry in their Report Mother and Child Care through this article.

If we look into the figures, India is the topmost country with highest rates of maternal mortality, which is often caused by malnutrition, and lack of protein and calcium in pregnant women. UNICEF India’s report says the figures to be 174 out of every 1,00,000 maternal deaths due to malnutrition. Ignoring such situation/s, Indian Government has released an official booklet “Mother and Child Care” released recently by the Ayush Ministry of Indian Government.

The report  “Mother and Child Care” attempts to control “impure thoughts” among expectant mother and believes in no sex during pregnancy as a measure.

According to the report, sex leads to desire, attachment, lust and other unwelcoming culture in the mother and the baby. So these kind of thoughts should be prohibited. Also, the report advises the pregnant mothers to look at the beautiful baby pictures so that it can impact positively in the baby.

The report is an effort to promote vegetarianism and no meat policy by the Hindu-nationalist government led by Narendra Modi and Ayush Ministry who have recently banned eating beef along with limitations to cow transport for slaughter etc. The country was not overcoming from this chaos on beef rage when the report on pregnant women in India and regulation on her sexual and eating behaviour is released. This report advises pregnant women to keep away from meat and eggs, as they are believed to be against the culture and promotes hatred.

Pregnant women to-do-list as per the Report- ‘Mother and Child Care’

  • To say no to Meat and Sex during pregnancy as they can corrupt souls of both mother and the baby.
  • To avoid impure thoughts such as desire, attachment, lust and hatred.
  • To engross completely in spiritual and godly thoughts.
  • To keep company of good people in a peaceful surrounding.
  • To read life stories of great personalities.
  • To decorate the walls and surroundings with beautiful baby pictures for boosting motherhood values.

However, the report has been criticized from all the corners including various Doctors and Medical Professionals and research groups on health and nutrition. It is criticized that the report has unscientific base with irrational advice, which is inducing pregnant women to eat even poorly.

Sex should be avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy as the chances of miscarriage are high. Second and third trimesters are safe to have sex with a suitable position.

Pregnant women suffer from constipation during their pregnancy. Meat is not digestible easily which too results in constipation and indigestion. So having meat during pregnancy can degrade your health condition.

During pregnancy, pregnant women need lots of protein and fibrous food. Not eating meat doesn't harm a lot but instead, she should be focusing on having lots of vitamins.

Pregnant women in India have got several rights. Some of them are attention seeking as in some of the districts in India. Pregnant women are entitled to get Rs. 6000 cash for their regular checkups and vaccination of their babies. Isn't it really great!!!
