Normal delivery is a procedure in which the baby is born without any medical intervention. A woman can perform various exercises for normal delivery such as Tadasana, Trikonasana, Marjariasana, Shavasana. Normal delivery tips include your diet, stress free environment and have an active lifestyle.

Let’s Discuss in More Details About Do’s and Don’ts Before Normal Delivery:

Normal delivery involves various aspects, which must be understood and implemented for the healthy birth of a baby. The health of mother and baby needs to be taken care of. The family of the pregnant woman can make the surroundings comfortable for a peaceful birth of a baby. Such precautions help you give birth to a healthy baby without any kind of struggles or complications. You can know more about the process of natural birth by reading good books on pregnancy and delivery. There are several Motherhood Guide Books by different experienced mothers who have shared their experience of labor and childbirth that you can go through. You can also surf for FAQs about the problems you encounter every day during pregnancy. (1) (2)

What should you do before undergoing childbirth naturally?

You should clear all the confusions related to labor and delivery so that your mind is ready for the coming situations.

    Get Ready in Advance

You should be ready for your due date of delivery. Delivering a baby is a delicate task and you should not miss out anything that may make the delivery risky or uneasy. Preparation should be at all levels, emotional, mental and physical. (3) You can do the following:

    • Keep a check on your diet
    • Do Some Exercises
    • Stay away from stressful work or talks
    • Take tips from people who are close to you and experienced
    • Have a checklist of ANM (Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery)
    • Get in touch of a doctor or doula who can help you at the time of delivery
    • Must go for a walk every day

Do Some Yoga/Exercises to Ease Labor and Delivery

Do some yoga and exercises. Some of the Yogasana listed here are the ones you can try in pregnancy but do not forget to take the doctor’s advice. (4) (5)

    • Tadasana – Mountain Pose
    • Virabhadrasana – Warrior Pose
    • Trikonasana – Triangle Pose
    • Uttanasana – Standing Forward Bend
    • Marjariasana – Cat Pose
    • Shavasana – Corpse Pose
    • You can try belly dance too but make sure that you consult a gynecologist before starting with an exercise routine. A morning walk should not be missed out. Walking will help you improve the functioning of your cardiovascular system.

    Yoga

    Prepare Beforehand:

    • Pack all the essential items in advance
    • Consult an obstetrician or ANM (Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery) for your due date who can give you consistent support while in labor. Many times pregnant women also take the assistance of experienced women in their family who take care of her needs while delivering the baby. (7)

Some of the items that must be packed in your bag before going to the hospital are:

    • Dressing Gown
    • Towels
    • Easy to wear slippers
    • Maternity Pads
    • Massage Oils
    • Old Clothes that you will wear during pain
    • Things to help you get you engaged in labor
    • Energy Drinks & Snacks

You can prepare your own list as your needs may vary.

Convey Your Feelings Clearly To Your Near and Dear Ones

Only you are going through the feelings of labor and delivery. Do not expect from the doctor or your partner to take care of your needs without knowing exactly what you require at the moment. Express yourself and convey about your needs as much as you can so that they can act appropriately.

Understand the Needs of Your Body

Every woman has different needs during pregnancy. You need to provide the required nourishment and care to the body from time to time to stay strong. Including green vegetables, seasonal fruits, dairy products, cereals, and nuts can be of extreme benefit. (7)

Movement Is Necessary To Keep Blood Circulation Going Well

Many women stay confined to bed for a long time much before the labor starts. You may fear that movement might cause some problems, which is not true. You should keep walking or moving until real-time of labor arrives. The movements keep the blood circulation going well in the body. It also helps in the smooth and near to painless delivery of a baby.

    blood pressure balance

    Medicines/Painkillers are Not Always Necessary

Labour is intolerable yet inevitable when you are pregnant. You can overcome it with proper care. Many times women give up during long durations of labor. Doctors and nurses may suggest taking painkillers to relieve excessive pain but painkillers are not always necessary. Give courage to yourself that it will be over to have more strength of body and mind. (8)

Make a Bond with Your Child Just After Delivery

It comes as a proven fact that holding newly born baby close mother’s body makes it stronger thereby affecting its overall health. Not only this, it will give you an everlasting memory and help you make a unique bond with your child right from the start. (9)

Let your body adapt to your needs

Just after delivery, you can let your body adapt to your nature. You may take a longer or shorter time than others to recover post-delivery. All the body parts that went through a change will take their previous shape after some time. Therefore, the process of bouncing back takes times, you only need to wait and relax for that to happen on its own.

What You Should Avoid Before Labor And Delivery?

Do Not Let Yourself Get Afraid Of Others’ Stories

Everyone has different stories to narrate about their childbearing period. Many approach you with different advises depending upon their own personal experience. Listen only to positive ones as it helps gain the mental strength to deliver your baby. In addition, your experience may vary. Childbirth is a natural process for which your body is designed. So, be positive and hope for the best. (10)

    Do Not Starve Yourself

Keep eating within the interval of a few hours. This will give you the energy to go through a long duration of delivery pain and discomfort. Delivery along with labor may take nearly 12-20 hours. Therefore, the strenuous activity of contractions should not let you give up. Keep some energy drinks and snacks that would help you gain strength for labor.

Do Not Be Hopeless Even When You Are Tired

Delivering a baby takes time. It is more a mental and emotional exercise than just physical. You go into labor for nearly 20 hours (duration can vary for different women). Therefore, in the end, you may feel like giving up and go on painkillers. Keep yourself motivated by imagining about your baby, about to be delivered shortly.

Do Not Think Of Your Body Post Delivery

Do not think too much about your appearance post-delivery. Avoid negative thinking with positive thoughts of your achievement as a mother. It is needless to say that your body will automatically take the pre-pregnancy shape with time and the right amount of efforts.

Do Not Forget To Involve Your Partner

You partner and you have an emotional bond and you two are together on the journey to parenthood. Hence, do not forget to involve your partner during labor and delivery. It is scientifically proven that the presence and involvement of your partner give you hope. It will also help you fight with the negativity that you are only bearing the burden of the entire childbearing process.

    involve your partner

The above-mentioned do’s and don’ts before natural delivery of your baby not only make your pregnancy and delivery comfortable but make it a time to remember.
