Know when to take Pregnancy Test - Pregnancy Test Kit

    • 283729 views
    • 4.8   (23 Votes)

If you are having early symptoms of pregnancy, then you need to know that a pregnancy test with the help of a pregnancy test kit will prove to be beneficial for you. Dipping stick and pouring stick are the two pregnancy tests. Evaporation line and negative line on the pregnancy test are used to measure the presence of pregnancy.

When you start experiencing the symptoms of early pregnancy, obviously the first thing you do is to reach out for a pregnancy test kit. However, many of us don’t know when to use a pregnancy test kit. Your excitement knows no bounds after you had a successful unprotected session during your fertile window. (1) But going for mindless pregnancy test rounds will fetch your misery if you don’t know when to use a pregnancy test kit. This is due to the factor of HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin), which is produced by the fetus. However, the progression of HCG takes place after a week or two of fertilization. (2) This is also to be noted that, not all women experience the range and level of HCG hormones equally. For some women, HCG hormones start with slow progression, for others, it increases rapidly. But, the bottom line is if your body is not at the stage where HCG hormones are produced enough; declaration of pregnancy is hard and confusing most of the time. (3)

What is a Pregnancy Test Kit?

Pregnancy Test Kit, most commonly known as OTC (Over the Counter) Pregnancy Kit or HPT (Home Pregnancy Test) Kit, UPT (Urine Pregnancy Test) kit, etc., is a scientific device designed to detect the HCG hormones in a female body through urine. (7) Normally, as the pregnancy progresses, the HCG level is at peak around 8-11 weeks. This is the time when Pregnancy Tests are suggested. After 12-16 weeks, the HCG production is stable. Usually, a pregnancy test kit should be used after two weeks of a missed period or at 8-10 weeks of pregnancy to see the maximum result. However, today in the market you will find many variants of Pregnancy Test Kits, which can detect HCG level as low as 25mlU. 25mlU is normally detected after 10 days post pregnancy. (9) (10)

How to use pregnancy test kit

One of the best pregnancy kits is i-can pregnancy test kit in India, which can diagnose your HCG level as low as 10 DPO (10 Days Post Ovulation) very effectively on the basis of user review ratings.

    HCG levels in pregnant women

    1- 3 weeks LMP: 5 – 50 mIU/mL (7) (8)

    2- 4 weeks LMP: 5 – 426 mIU/mL

    3- 5 weeks LMP: 18 – 7,340 mIU/mL

    4- 6 weeks LMP: 1,080 – 56,500 mIU/mL

    5- 7 – 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 – 229,000 mIU/mL

    6- 9 – 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 – 288,000 mIU/mL

    7- 13 – 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 – 254,000 mIU/mL

    8- 17 – 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 – 165,400 mIU/mL

    9- 25 – 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 – 117,000 mIU/mL

When to use a Pregnancy Test Kit?

As discussed above, a pregnancy test kit should be used after 2 weeks of the missed menstrual period. However, with Pregnancy Test Kits, which can detect your HCG level as early as 10 days such as i-can, one need not worry and start tracking pregnancy from 10 DPO itself. This is the time when you start experiencing various early pregnancy symptoms in your body due to a rapid increase of HCG level such as (4) (5) (6)

    1- Nausea & Vomiting.

2- Sore and tender breasts and nipples.

    3- Spotting and cramping.

    Spotting and cramping

    4- Food aversions/cravings.

    5- Constipation/ Loose motion

    6- Headache.

    7- Fatigue and restlessness.

8- Raised and stable Basal Body Temperature.

9- Milky white/watery vaginal discharge or cervical mucus.

    10- Faintness and dizziness.

How to use the Pregnancy Test Kit?

There are various variants of pregnancy test kits available in the market. On the basis of their distinctive use process, we are dividing them into following categories along with usage instruction.

1- Dipping stick- For this particular type of pregnancy test kit, collect your urine sample in a cup/bowl (washed and dried) and dip your stick for 30 seconds for results to appear.

2- The pouring stick- Collect your urine sample in a cup/bowl, dip a dropper and squeeze in sufficient amount, Squeeze out 3-4 drops in the specific hole on the test kit. Wait for 30-40 seconds for results to appear.

What a Positive Pregnancy Test really looks like?

When the urine sample passes through the window, you will see one control line in the stick to indicate that the test kit is working fine. If you are pregnant, another line of same color and texture appear next to the control. Follow the picture to understand better.

What is a Negative Line & an Evaporation Line on a Pregnancy Test?

A negative pregnancy test does not have any other line apart from the control line. Sometimes a very faint line appears which is also known as evaporation line. This is nothing but a very low level of HCG in your body. Follow the pictures to understand how a negative pregnancy test and evaporation line looks like.

    Positive Pregnancy Test

What to do if you are tested Pregnant?

You should visit your Medical professional/doctor (especially an Obstetrician & Gynecologist) to follow your health properly and kickstart your beautiful journey of pregnancy.

You have got a positive pregnancy test and wondering the results can be incorrect! To rule out incorrect test results, learn the causes of a false positive pregnancy test. If you are using a pregnancy test kit for the first time, then find a complete guide on the usage of pregnancy kits.

I had no idea there was so much involved, but it makes sense. One should not go after a pregnancy test if they don't have pregnancy symptoms.

So I took a test last week. Negative but I have been throwing up and feeling nauseous for a solid week now. My areola is tender and my back hurts plus I have diarrhea. I have never had this nausea like this before maybe it's too early to really take a test. Going to try again soon.
