Regestrone 5 mg Tablet - Uses, Side Effects, Interactions and Dosage

Regestrone 5 mg tablets uses are in cases of abnormal uterine bleeding, amenorrhea, breast cancer, and endometrial cancer. It is also serves as an oral contraceptive. Regestrone 5 mg side effects are irregular menstrual periods, stomach discomfort, weight loss, and difficulty in swallowing.

Novartis India Ltd.’s product, Regestrone 5 mg tablet is used in the treatment of endometriosis, abnormal vaginal bleeding and menstrual disorders. Active ingredient includes  Norethisterone. Regestroneis also utilized as a birth control for preventing unwanted pregnancies. It offers eight weeks contraception. Norethisterone stops the ovulation process. It also changes uterus lining for making it less likely for the fertilized egg to attach with it. It is available in the form of injection and is the convenient form of short-term contraception.

The medicine is useful in treating the:

1- Abnormal uterine bleeding- Regesterone 5 MG tablet is used for preventing the episodes of prolonged and heavy bleeding during periods.

2- Amenorrhoea- it is used for the treatment of an absence of the menstrual period in the woman of reproductive age.

3- Breast Cancer- Sometimes the medicine is prescribed for the treatment of certain types of breast cancer.

4- Contraception- For preventing unwanted pregnancies this medicine can be used as an oral contraceptive.

5- Endometrial Cancer- It helps in the treatment of several types of cancer where the uterus tissue lining grows outside and causes pain.6- Pre Menstrual Syndrome- Regesterone helps in the treatment of symptoms, which occur between ovulation and onset of the menstrual period. What are the interactions of Regesterone 5 MG Tablet?

There is always a risk of interaction when you take more than one medicine at a time or can be due to food or disease.

1- Interaction with disease:

a- Depression- Regesterone 5 MG has been reported to increase depression. Patients who have a history of depression should use this medicine with caution.

b- Fluid Retention and edema- Patients who have a fluid retention disorder or exposed to risk factors should use this medicine with caution.

c- Hepatic neoplasms- Patients who are suffering from the liver tumor are recommended not to use this medicine as an oral contraceptive. There is a high risk of adverse effects and need extreme caution.

d- Retinal thrombosis- this medicine can cause a disturbance in vision and other problems in eyes. If a patient has pre-existing eye disease then they should use this medicine with caution.

2- Interaction with Lab test- Inform the doctor if you are using this medicine and if thyroid function test is advised. It might interfere with the test results.

3- Interaction with medicine- There are chances of drug interaction if you are using other drugs with Regesterone tablet. With the following drugs, Regesterone may interact:

a- Cyclosporine A

b- Estrogens conjugated

c- Griseofulvin

d- Phenytoin

e- Rifampin

What are the dosage instructions for Regesterone 5 MG Tablet?

It is advised to take a missed dose immediately after noticing it. You can skip the missed ones if next's scheduled dose is close. Do not take extra doses for making up the missed doses. Consult your doctor for in schedule if you are regularly missing the medicine. Do not take more than the prescribed doses. Taking more than prescribed doses will only worsen the symptoms rather than improving them. If you notice any unwanted side effects then consult your doctor immediately.
