Calculating and tracking your ovulation day is a vital part when it comes to getting pregnant or trying to conceive. If you are recently trying to have a baby, you need to chart and track your cycles of ovulation and fertility so you know better when you are most likely to get pregnant or try to conceive. Though for a lot of women who are suffering from irregular periods, conceiving can be a lot harder to chart your cycles of ovulation and fertility and it can be really difficult to determine when the right time for you to get pregnant. The thing that most people don’t understand and need to know that is, that even if your periods are irregular or you have irregular periods, you can still be ovulating regularly with your irregular periods. Here are some top tips on how to calculate ovulation or make ovulation calendar for irregular menstrual cycle.

Chart Your Cycle:

Firstly, you should try to chart down your cycles on a calendar for a few months before and after to see if you notice any patterns at all in the way that your menstrual cycles line up. Even if you don't succeed or don’t end up getting pregnant/conceive naturally on your own, and need to visit a fertility doctor, those calendars you charted down with your cycles on it will really help your doctor you are visiting to figure out what is going on with you.

Ovulation calculator, Ovulation predictor kit

One can also use ovulation calculator or fertility calculator. An ovulation calendar can be used to track your upcoming ovulation days.

Observe Your Cervical Mucus:

Even you can also keep track of your cervical mucus when your period ends, you will generally notice for few days with little to no cervical mucus at all present. After some days, your amount of cervical mucus will gradually begin to come and to increase up to ovulation period. When you are ovulating or when your ovulation period starts, your cervical mucus color and thickness will be very much like egg whites, clear, stretchy and thick but not foul. The day when your cervical mucus is almost like egg whites is the day of your ovulation period. This is one genuine way to calculate ovulation.

Monitor Your Basal Body Temperature:

Measure your BBT is the way by taking your basal body temperature daily when you get up and need to be taken as soon as you wake up. You can monitor this with a special BBT thermometer. You have to take your body temperature every day, sometimes even for a couple of months before you notice a difference.

Ovulation calculator

When you are ovulating, your basal body temperature will rise by as much as a whole degree. One can also use ovulation calculator or fertility calculator. An ovulation calendar can be used to track your upcoming ovulation days.

Check Your Cervix:

Your cervix is the tunnel between your vagina and uterus, keep changing throughout your menstrual cycle. The position and texture of your cervix let you know if you are ovulating or not. Gently probe your cervix with one or two fingers daily mildly and write down your observations about its texture and position to start tracking your ovulation period. During the first half of your menstrual cycle, your cervix should be hard and low. As your body prepares itself to ovulate, your cervix softens down, opens up slightly, and shortens to allow sperm and easy access to your ovum. You may sometimes need to extend your finger several inches inside your vagina before you feel your cervix inside. Once the tip of your finger touches the donut-shaped opening that is at the end of your vagina, you have just touched your cervix and be gentle while doing this procedure. One can also use ovulation calculator or fertility calculator. An ovulation calendar can be used to track your upcoming ovulation days.

Use an Ovulation Prediction Kit:

You can also get an ovulation prediction kit and you can use the kit to track your ovulation as well. It is easy to use ovulation prediction kit. If none of the above methods work for you, then you can always visit your doctor do some basic blood tests to determine if you are ovulating or not.

Using other methods other than ovulation prediction kit will make you waste 2-3 months as these methods require time to analyze results. But this kit can give you instant results.

I found BBT chart as the most suitable method to track ovulation for irregular periods. You can start and end your reading according to your cycles and evaluate results.

Getting a cycle longer than usual for some time or for any of the time can be taken as regular thing. But if it is a repeated one, it can be PCOS where ovaries are bound by small sac filled with fluid and so they do not allow eggs to shed easily.
