If you are thinking that how to increase sperm count naturally, then you can focus on how long you sleep on a regular basis. Antisperm antibody in male infertility affects the overall fertility levels of men. If you can monitor your sleep, then you can easily improve sperm count naturally. This prevents requirement of male infertility treatments.

We all know how sleep is good for health and many of us try to get more and more sleep with our hectic life schedule. But does sleeping more really improve male fertility? Answer is, sleeping too much or too little can really affect sperm count. According to Boston University School of Public Health researcher, at least 8 hours of sleep is an essential requirement to maintain healthy sperm count. Men who sleep less than 6 hours or more than 9 hours have 42% chances of low sperm count. So, 7 to 8 hours of sleep seems to be the best duration.

Poor sleep duration can lead to unhealthy lifestyle, decrease in sex or decreased libido. Impact of sleep on male fertility is actually hormonal. Sleep is important for testosterone production and testosterone is important for reproduction.

Male Fertility Factors

The other factors on which male reproductive capacity depends apart from other factors depends on his ability to:

1- Healthy sperm for fertilizing the egg: The common cause of infertility in men is issue with the seminal fluid where the sperm is either low in count, immature, abnormal or cannot swim.

2- Erection for ejaculating the seminal fluid so that it can reach the ovum.

In 2013, in American Journal of Epidemiology, a research was published where it was found that the sperm count was 25 percent lower in the men who slept for less than six hours than those of men who were able to achieve the suggested eight hours of sleep. The researchers then analyzed 980 men sleeping habits for understanding the bedtime and sleep duration and how these two factors affect male infertility.

Male fertility

Those who went to bed late and got less sleep have lower sperm count and low survival rate. It also showed an increase in anti-sperm antibody.

What is Anti-sperm Antibody?

1- Immune system produces a protein called anti-sperm antibody, which can destroy healthy sperm.

2- It blocs the seminal fluid's movement and prevent it from reaching the egg thus, stopping fertilization.

It implies high risk of infertility amongst men with high sperm antibodies.

How sleep has a big role in improving male fertility?

The exact reason how sleep can improve or what impact does sleep has on male fertility is not clear. Some researchers believe that sleep leads to the risk of obesity, which can impair the male reproductive function. While other researchers believe that improper duration of sleep or less sleep can affect the circadian clock i.e. a biological mechanism, which is responsible for different routine behaviors regarding day and night cycle and ultimately leading to, impaired semen quality.

Sleeping sex

Bottom Line

Disturbed or inadequate sleep is associated with poor lifestyle and poor nutrition in men, which not only affects the health but also, has an adverse effect on male reproductive health as well. For maintaining man's overall health, one should adopt a good lifestyle with balanced diet. The research has proved that excessive sleep or sleep deprivation can impair semen quality. Besides, this type of sleep related semen impairing seems to be reversible and points towards the role of 'sleep correction’, which is not only for male infertility but for also infertility treatment. Proper sleep and rest improves the fertility. And if you are facing any sleeping issues or have fertility related concerns then it is advised to consult the doctor.

Improper sleep

Lastly we hear a lot from many of our users that sleep sex or sex in sleep affect male fertility? Firstly sleep sex is not humanly possible unless someone has been drugged or is unconscious. Even in drugged situation sleep sex doesn't impact sperm count directly, however the drug overdoes may impact fertility health.
