Diaphragm contraceptive method is the birth control method with the use of which menstrual cycles and future fertility are not affected. It can also be used during breastfeeding phase and proves to be immediately effective. Diaphragm provides limited protection against STDs but not HIV/AIDS.

The contraception diaphragm is a shallow and dome-shaped cup with a flexible rim to best fit inside. It is made of silicone. The diaphragm is inserted it into the vagina. When it is fixed in a place, it covers the cervix properly that prevents you from getting pregnant.

What are the types of Diaphragm?

Diaphragms contraception are available in diameters of 50 mm to 105 mm. They are available in two different materials like latex and silicone. Diaphragms are also available with different types of springs in the rim to best fit you and it is better than the oral contraceptive pills.

1- Arcing Spring:

An arcing spring folds firmly into an arc shape when the sides are compressed easily. This type is the strongest rim available in a contraception diaphragm and may be used by women with at any level of vaginal tone and the diaphragm is commonly used as birth control contraception and one of the best birth control methods.

2- Coil Spring:

A coil spring flattens easily into an oval shape when the sides are compressed firmly. Remember that this rim is not as strong as the arcing spring, and this may only be used by women with average vaginal tone. An arcing spring diaphragm is not comfortable during intercourse and a coil spring may prove more satisfactory during this time.

3- Flat Spring:

A flat spring is much like a coil spring but not exact, but thinner than that. This type of rim may only be used by women with firm vaginal tone

How is Diaphragm used?

Contraception diaphragms can be inserted up to 2 hours before you plan to have sex because of spermicide inside it, is only effective for 2 hours and that protect you from getting pregnant or conceiving and it is better than the oral contraceptive pills. If you insert contraceptive diaphragm more than 2 hours before the intercourse, you will have to insert more spermicide into your vagina to prevent from getting pregnant.

Diaphragm is made up of silicone and it has been reported that it has been failed in preventing 1% of the pregnancies. Can't trust. Risk is always there.

As far as I know, oral contraceptive pills must be chosen on expert's recommendation. Sometimes, the oral contraceptive pills need to be taken on time according to your body so it's better to have an expert's advice before taking them.

It might take some time to be perfect with this birth control method. Once you are into the regular use, it will become easy and adaptable.
