What is IUD method?

IUD is an abbreviation of 'intrauterine device' and the device is in 'T' shape. It is a small piece of flexible plastic shaped and placed inside the uterus. It stops the sperm from reaching and fertilizing eggs, thus prevents pregnancy.

IUD Effectiveness

The chance of getting pregnant is less than 1% if IUD is used properly. It implies that IUDs are effective as there is hardly any chance of mistake. And you don't have to do anything like taking pill or using condoms correctly.

And it provides protection from unwanted pregnancy for 24/7 i.e. from 3 to 12 years depending upon the type you are using. So, once inserted you don't have to worry further.

Benefits of IUDs

If you are looking for long term protection then IUDs is the best solution. It is also known as 'set it and forget it' birth control measure.

1- Convenient to use

Once inserted you don't have to worry about it anymore. It works well until it expires or you have removed it yourself. Apart from this, it ensures you protection for next 3 to 12 years.

2- Once removed IUD, you can get pregnant

The other feature of this method is it is reversible. If you are looking forward for pregnancy then you can remove it. IUD doesn't affect the fertility or doesn't make it difficult to get pregnant in future. So, once removed you can get pregnant without any difficulty.

3- Makes periods better

This method reduces the cramps and makes the periods lighter. Hormonal IUDs help in treating the females suffering from heavy periods, anemia and severe cramps.

IUD is good to have but in 2-3% chances couples get pregnant. A couple can have miscarriage too if the IUD is not removed before pregnancy.

Copper T is also an IUD. The only side effect I see is heavy periods with IUD. But once you get it removed, cycle comes back to normal in 2-3 months.
