Every woman needs to learn the best way to use female condoms to prevent occurrence of pregnancy. Female condom effectiveness against pregnancy reaches up to 90%. You need to learn how to use female condoms with pictures in an efficient manner which includes the correct form of insertion and removal of the condom.

What is a Female Condom?

Female Condom is one of the widely used contraceptive methods to prevent unwanted pregnancy. It is a barrier method of contraception, which is used before and during sexual intercourse. It also reduces the risk of sexually transmitted diseases along with allowing one to avoid pregnancy.

Effectiveness of Female Condoms

If used accurately, female condoms can have an effectiveness of as high as 90%. However it has been found that, as using female condom is a messy affair, and the figure of effectiveness comes down to 60% in many cases. Certain benefits of female condoms are-

  • Female condoms have been found to be very safe to skin, simple to use and easily available in the market.
  • The female partner controls the female condom. It is very effective for those women who go in for paid sex, as in those cases the female partner is able to control the safety.
  • Female condom can be used during periods. So if you are feeling extra naughty during your bleed hours, you don’t need to worry. There is female condom for you to save you from all the mess.
  • Female condoms are easy to carry. You can insert them and be prepared even 8 hours before sex and you won’t feel any discomfort.
  • Female condoms don’t affect hormones. Since these condoms are used externally, it does not mess up with your hormones.
  • Female condom can be used with many other sex enhancing products such as lube and oil.
  • Many women have reviewed the outer ring of female condom, to be very effective for clitoral stimulation.

How to use Female Condoms?

Female condoms are very easy to use if you follow the steps as depicted below in pictorial instructions. Here, we will discuss how to insert and remove a female condom effectively.

1- Insertion of female condom

For inserting a female condom, first go through the instruction manual properly and then check the expiration date. Once you are thorough-
How to use female condoms

  • Relax and find a comfortable seat where you can insert the female condom at ease. Preferably a chair or a toilet seat comes handy.
  • Keep one foot on the ground and the other on the chair/toilet seat. You can also sit in a squatting position if your body balance is bad with one foot.
  • The inner rings will be stuck together after you open the pack. Stretch it with your fingers and insert it in your vagina exactly as you push in a tampon.
  • Keep pushing the inner ring as far you can push. If it reaches near the cervix means you have inserted it well.
  • Once you are done inserting keep your outer ring hang on about one inch outside your vagina.
  • Once you have gained the control, direct your partner’s penis inside.

2- Removal of Female Condom

Removal of female condom needs care and mindfulness. Don’t do it immediately as you will be exhausted after a steamy session. Once you are comfortable enough, follow these following procedures to remove the female condom from your vagina.
 Removal of female condoms

  • Twist the outer ring of the female condom to prevent the semen spilling outside.
  • Pull it out slowly.
  • Dump it in trash/dustbin. Do not let your used condom to come to any connection with toilet as it can create water logging in your bathroom.
  • Do not use a used condom again

Disadvantages of Female Condoms

Although female condom is a very effective contraceptive method, it has certain disadvantages such as-

  • If you are allergic to latex, this method of contraception should be avoided.
  • For women with bacterial infection, the lube present in the female condom can lead to inflammation.
  • International Medical Council does not approve it for anal sex.
  • If not used properly, it can be messy and lead to an uncomfortable sex session.
  • It reduces sexual sensation and temptation to a large extent for both the partners.
  • It is very expensive. Two times more expensive than a regular male condom.

I guess the only advantage I see with female condom is the inserting part. Once you are used to it, you will feel no irritation while insertion. Just find the right place and better if you ask your partner to make it a part of the foreplay. You will even not feel anything annoying.
