Earlier there were limited methods of birth control available to women. The wearable ones i.e. Condom did not provide much leverage to women as it was controlled solely by men. In recent times, Science & Technology has immensely worked towards the freedom of women in choosing birth control methods with advanced technologies such as birth control patches. Evra is one of the popular birth control patches available in the market which helps women making a safe and informed decision on birth control.

What is Birth Control Patch?

In the world of contraception, birth control patch is a way of hormonal contraception. It is basically a square patch which resembles to plastic bandage. Once it sticks to skin, it starts releasing the hormones in body for preventing pregnancy. Once in week you have to replace it with new patch and then a week off before repeating the cycle. It is safe, affordable and simple method for avoiding pregnancy.

How birth control patch work?

This plastic bandage prevents pregnancy by not letting sperm from meeting an egg. Like birth control pills, this patch has two man-made hormones versions of estrogen and progestin. These hormones type can also be found in most of the contraceptive pills. Hormones are then absorbed by the body from the patch.

These hormones then prevent pregnancy by stopping the ovaries from releasing eggs. Due to hormones, cervical mucus starts thickening for keeping the sperm out. It takes almost a week for patch to work.

Available birth patch control in the market?

Ortho Evra is your answer if you are looking for birth patch control. A contraceptive skin patch is a combination of female hormones i.e. Ethinyl estradiol and Norelgestromin. Norelgestromin prevents release of eggs. It also changes the cervical mucus and uterus lining which make impossible for sperm to reach to the uterus and prevents the fertilized egg to attach with uterus.
