Oral contraceptive is one of the most trusted and used methods of avoiding unwanted pregnancy. Yasmin tablet is one such trustworthy and expert recommended name in the field. 

What is Yasmin Tablet?

Yasmin tablet (Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol) is a trusted oral method for birth control. Experts to treat females with other ovary and period issues have prescribed the pill. The pill is a combination of two hormonal an estrogen and a progestin. Yasmin tablets prevent the release of egg during the menstrual cycle. It helps thickening the vaginal fluid, which in return constrains the sperm from reaching an egg (prevents fertilization). Yasmin tablet creates healthy effects the in uterus lining which restrains the attachment of fertilized egg to it.

Important Information Before Consuming Yasmin Tablets

  1. When you are pregnant you should avoid Yasmin Tablet as it can lead to miscarriage.
  2. If you have High Blood Pressure, Yasmin tablet is not recommended as it can pump the excess blood flow.
  3. When you have Heart related problems i.e. heartburn or any cardiovascular disease, consuming Yasmin tablet can be lethal.
  4. Women with Blood clot issues should avoid consuming Yasmin tablets as it works as anticoagulant (blood thickeners) substance.
  5. If you have Diabetic Problems, you should not take Yasmin tablets as it can affect blood sugar levels.
  6. When you have Liver related problems, Yasmin tablets should not be consumed to avoid the risks of stomach issues such as indigestion.
  7. Ovarian or breast cancer patients should not use Yasmin Tablets as it can affect in cancerian cells in a lethal way.
  8. Migraine patients should stop consuming Yasmin tablets as it can lead to dizziness and nausea along with the headache.
  9. Breastfeeding mothers should avoid consuming Yasmin tablets as it can put your child at risk. 

Under any of the following circumstances do not indulge without consulting your gynecologist.  

How Should I Consume Yasmin Tablet

Take one pill a day and follow the 24-hour cycle. Choose a suitable timing of the day and keep your tablet handy. You may have to use condom or a spermicide the first time you start using Yasmin. Do not change the course of the dosage without any guidance by the gynecologist.

How should I consume Yasmin tablets

Always make sure to consult a gynecologist before starting the medical course. Strictly take the dosage as prescribed by the doctor. Below are some of the variant dosages of Yasmin tablets with instructions described-

  • 21 Day Course of Yasmin Tablets: If you are prescribed to take the 21 day Yasmin tablet course, take one pill each day for 3 weeks or 21 days
  • 28 Day Course of Yasmin Tablets: If you are prescribed to take the 28 day Yasmin tablet course, you should know that there are 21 tablets (yellow color) are active tablets (with hormones) and 7 tablets (white color) are reminder tablets (without hormones). If the doctor does not prescribe you this particular course, do not take the reminder pills.

What Should I Do If I Skip A Dose Of Yasmin Tablets?

  1. Keep reminders for your daily intake of the tablet.
  2. If you miss one tablet take two the next and then keep following one tablet a day routine.
  3. If you miss two tablets in a row in 1st and 2nd week, take two pills per day for two days in a row. Then continue with a tablet a day routine. Use back-up birth control for at least 7 days following the missed tablet.
  4. If you miss two tablets in a row in the 3rd week, start a new pack the same day, discarding the older one.
  5. If you miss three tablets in a row in any of the 3 weeks, start a new pack and completely discard the older one.
  6. Although, missing a reminder tablet (white colored) will not cause any trouble, but do not take a double dosage the next day.

Side Effects of Yasmin tablet

Yasmin Tablets can lead to Stroke, Heart attack and Liver damage if not consumed properly. Some of the side effects as classified below are-

  1. Stroke signs
  • Swelling or warmth in one or both legs
  • Sudden numbness or weakness with severe headache.
  • Slurred speech with problems of vision or balance
  • Chest pain including cough and wheezing. Coughing blood can also occur.
    Side effects of Yasmin Tablets

    2. Heart attack symptoms

  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Nausea and Sweating
  • Pain spreading to your jaw or shoulder

     3. Liver problems

  • Severe stomach pain
  • Fever, Fatigue couple with loss of appetite
  • Dark urine and clay-colored stools
  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)

   4. Common Yasmin side effects may include

  • Nausea, vomiting and Breast tenderness
  • Headache, mood changes, feeling tired or irritable
  • Weight gain with Breast lump
  • Changes in your menstrual periods, decreased sex drive
  • A change in the pattern or severity of migraine headaches
  • Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet with symptoms of depression (sleep problems, weakness, tired feeling, mood changes)

What Happens After Overdosing Yasmin Tablets?

Overdose may cause severe vaginal bleeding, nausea, vomiting. Immediately rush to your nearest gynecologist/doctor.

Yasmin tablet is very effective birth control pill but if you are taking it later in your cycle then you need to use other protective measures. As yasmin takes a little bit time to show its effects by the time you can use condoms and other measure to stay protected.
