The contraception diaphragm is a shallow and dome-shaped cup with a flexible rim to best fit inside. It is made of silicone. The diaphragm is inserted it into the vagina. When it is fixed in a place, it covers the cervix properly that prevents you from getting pregnant.

What are the types of Diaphragm?

Diaphragms contraception are available in diameters of 50 mm to 105 mm. They are available in two different materials like: latex and silicone. Diaphragms are also available with different types of springs in the rim to best fit you and it is better than the oral contraceptive pills.

1- Arcing Spring: An arcing spring folds firmly into an arc shape when the sides are compressed easily. This type is the strongest rim available in a contraception diaphragm and may be used by women with at any level of vaginal tone and the diaphragm is commonly used as birth control contraception and one of the best birth control methods.

2- Coil Spring: A coil spring flattens easily into an oval shape when the sides are compressed firmly. Remember that this rim is not as strong as the arcing spring, and this may only be used by women with average vaginal tone. An arcing spring diaphragm is not comfortable during intercourse and a coil spring may prove more satisfactory during this time.

3- Flat Spring: A flat spring is much like a coil spring but not exact, but thinner than that. This type of rim may only be used by women with firm vaginal tone

How is Diaphragm used?

Contraception diaphragms can be inserted up to 2 hours before you plan to have sex because of spermicide inside it, is only effective for 2 hours and that protect you from getting pregnant or conceiving and it is better than the oral contraceptive pills. If you insert contraceptive diaphragm more than 2 hours before the intercourse, you will have to insert more spermicide into your vagina to prevent from getting pregnant.

Every time a woman has intercourse, she will need to add more spermicide to her vagina. After intercourse, spermicide should be left in place for six to eight hours.

What is the Effectiveness of Diaphragm?

The contraceptive diaphragm is 90% effective in preventing pregnancy as it protects you from getting pregnant and one of the best birth control methods than contraceptive pill. Diaphragm offer limited protection against STD's but do not protect against HIV/AIDS.

How long is Diaphragm Effective?

Diaphragm gives protection for 2 hours only and can prevent you from getting pregnant and one of the best birth control methods and it is better than the oral contraceptive pills.

What are the steps to insert the Diaphragm?

1- Wash your hands with soap

 2- Put about a tablespoon of spermicide and spread some around the rim of diaphragm 

3- Find a comfortable position where you can stand with one foot on a chair, lie down, or squat easily

4- Separate the lips of your vulva with one hand and gently pinch the rim to fold it in half cup with the other hand

5- Place your index finger in the center of it and fold for a firmer grip. The spermicide must be inside the fold of diaphragm 

6- Gently push the diaphragm as far up as possible and back in your vagina as possible. Tuck the edge of the diaphragm behind your pubic bone. Make sure your cervix is fully covered

As far as I know, oral contraceptive pills must be chosen on expert's recommendation. Sometimes, the oral contraceptive pills needs to be given time according to your body so its better to have an expert's advice before taking them
