How to Prevent Pregnancy Without Using a Condom

How to Prevent Pregnancy Without Using a Condom

Wondering if you can avoid pregnancy without using a condom. Here are birth control methods that let you do just that. Contraception and family planning simplified

In today's world, family planning is a necessary task at hand. There are a variety of ways to decrease the risk of unwanted pregnancies without using a condom. You can speak to your family doctor to discuss (and receive prescriptions for) various medical options, or you can opt for natural birth control methods. Using condom has benefits that range beyond contraception - namely, the prevention of STIs (sexually transmitted infections). Also, the only 100% guaranteed way to prevent pregnancy is to abstain from sex; all other options significantly decrease your risk of pregnancy, but they are not guaranteed to prevent it.

Other Options To Avoid Pregnancy Without Using A Condom:

1. Take hormonal birth control pills:

If family planning is on your mind and you are a woman seeking to prevent pregnancy without using a condom, one of the most common birth control methods is the hormonal birth control pills. These can be available on a prescription from your doctor; the pills are composed of either a blend of estrogen and progesterone or just progesterone. You normally take one per day for 21 days followed by seven days of "sugar pills" (during which your body experiences a "withdrawal bleed" in place of a period)

2. Have an IUD (intrauterine device) inserted:

An IUD is a small, T-shaped device that is inserted through your vagina into your uterus (where it sits for the next number of years and functions as a birth control). They are over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy and a boon in disguise for those who prioritise family planning.

3. Try other hormonal birth control options:

If you want to avoid pregnancy without using a condom, other hormonal options include a vaginal ring, Depo-Provera injections, and contraceptive patches. They are available via a prescription from your doctor and act as effective birth control methods.

4. Opt for a spermicide:

Spermicides are gels or foams that are inserted into the vagina, which traps and subsequently kill sperm through the use of chemicals that are toxic to sperm. They can be purchased at your local drugstore or pharmacy. The failure rate for spermicides is around 22%.

5. Use a barrier method such as a cervical cap or a diaphragm:

Both a cervical cap and a diaphragm are devices that a woman inserts into her vagina to cover the cervix. This blocks sperm from entering the uterus. The cervical cap or diaphragm also normally contains chemicals that kill sperm, further reducing the risk of becoming pregnant. The failure rate of the cervical cap for women who have never been pregnant is 14%, and 29% in women who have previously been pregnant.

6. Opt for sterilization:

One of the surest ways to prevent pregnancy is for either the man or the woman (or both) to be sterilized. However, it is key to know that this is a permanent procedure. It should not be undertaken unless you are absolutely sure that you do not want biological children of your own in the future.

7. Try the withdrawal method:

One way to avoid pregnancy without using a condom is to try the withdrawal method. This method consists of the man removing his penis just prior to ejaculation so that the sperm do not have a chance to travel up the woman's vagina in a way that may lead to pregnancy.

8. Use the Calendar method:

Technically, there are only a few days each month when a woman can actually become pregnant. Most women have a 28-day cycle, which starts on the first day of her period. In most women, ovulation occurs on cycle day 14, but a woman can be fertile for several days before and after ovulating. The ovulation day of a woman depends on her cycle length.

9. Track your fertility using physiological markers:

One way to track your fertility is to use physiological markers such as basal body temperature measurements, and/or observing cervical mucus discharge, to help mark the days in the ovulation calendar when the woman's fertility peaks. You can then avoid having intercourse on the days when the woman's fertility is high. You can track your fertility on Ela

Both the withdrawal method, as well as the calendar method, are significantly less effective than the medical methods of contraception. It is important not to rely on these techniques for contraception if you are truly seeking to avoid pregnancy without using a condom.

Over the counter contraceptives such as oral pills, patches and condoms can be replaced with natural home remedies to avoid pregnancy. Also, know about the different types of birth control and their effectiveness in avoiding the pregnancy.

Family planning can be very easy following birth control methods like birth control path, shot or IUD. The only thing is these methods do not protect from catching sexually transmitted diseases.

Withdrawal can also be a birth control method to avoid pregnancy without using a condom whereas in most of the cases it's not safe enough.
