Pantocid Tablet- Overview

Pantocid tablet falls under the category of proton pump inhibitor drug, which is used to treat gastrointestinal issues. Acid Reflux, Stomach Ulcer, Heartburn, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) are common forms of gastrointestinal issues. Pantocid tablets are manufactured by Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd. and are considered as one of the most effective medicine to treat acid production in stomach. 

Pantocid (40 mg) Tablet Dosage Information and Composition

Pantocid(40 mg) tablet is composed of Pantoprazole Sodium Sesquihydrate as the active salt, which inhibits hydroxyl radicals and gastro-acid secretion.Pantocid 40 mg comes in strips of 15 tablets costing 130 INR per strip. It is not an over-the-counter (OTC) drug and does require a Doctor’s prescription. Pantocid tablet should be swallowed as a whole with water and usually at a fixed time of the day.

Pantocid Tablet Uses and Benefits

Pantocid is beneficial to treat a variety of acid issues as discussed below-

1- Acid Ulcer-Pantocid 40 mg is very beneficial with severe kind of ulcers.

2- Gastric / Peptic Ulcer- Pantocid 40 is effective in treating gastric ulcers which is characterized by a sore in the stomach lining or duodenum.

3- Esophageal Mucosal Injury- EMI is an injury caused by Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), which leads to increase in gastric juice to esophagus (food pipe or gullet). However, it can be treated with Pantocid 40 mg.

4- Gastrinoma/ Gastrin- secreting Tumor- Gastrinoma is a tumor, which secretes gastrin hormones in the cells of pancreas, duodenum and stomach. The secretion triggers the production of gastric acid. Gastrinomas are normally benign, however, in extreme cases they can be malignant or cancerous. Pantocid 40 mg helps curing Gastrinomas at their early stage and does save you from hazards of cancer.

5- Helicobacter pylori Infection- Helicobacter pylori are bacteria spiral in shape, whichgrows in the digestive tract and infects stomach linings. Pantocid 40 mg tablet is very useful in treating Helicobacter pylori infection.

6- Pantocid 40 MG Tablet During Pregnancy

Pregnancy induces surge of various hormones, which may lead to various imbalances in body including frequent acid refluxes and gastric issues. Normally, Pantocid 40 mg tablet is safe for pregnant women to cure acid reflux.

Side effects of Pantocid Tablet

Although Pantocid tablet is one of the most effective drugs to treat gastrointestinal issues and acid reflux, it has certain limitations. Consult your doctor in case you experience any of the below symptoms -

1- Nausea, Vomiting and Headache- In case of children, Pantocid 40 mg can cause these problems.

2- Cough, running nose and sore throat- Pantocid tablet can cause irritation in throat and nasal tract.

3- Diarrhea- Sometimes, you may experience loose stools with other stomach discomforts such as pain and flatulence.

4- Loss of appetite- Pantocid may lead to food averseness and make you undernourished. It can also create metallic taste with dry mouth.

5- Infection on skin- Pantocid 40 mg sometimes can lead to skin rash and swelling.

Pantocid 40 has many more uses. It is used to treat gastric ulcer,heartburn, vomiting, epigastric pain, eating disorder, sometimes stomach fullness,small intestine ulcer and nausea too. But it should be taken only when your doctor of physician prescribes you.
